Millstone Therapy Services
Millstone Therapy Group aspires to provide quality services to our children and their families. Our goal is to optimize each child’s growth and development to their highest potential by providing the necessary skills to play, learn, and be successful in all that they do.
EVALUATION
An initial evaluation is completed by performing some form of interview, observation, and/or standardized assessment to help establish a baseline and assess areas of need. Andrea will contact you (≈15-20 minute phone call) to discuss your child’s specific needs and/or concerns and will then at that time, assist you in determining if a formal evaluation is necessary, as well as which evaluation will be most appropriate to target the specific areas discussed. She will then direct you to what seems to be the most appropriate intervention for your child. Along with formal assessments, clinical observation will be carried out to observe the child’s functional movements and postural control. Evaluations are used to gather baseline data, establish goals and to track progress.
Some areas an evaluation may assess are: Self-Care, Fine Motor coordination, Strength and Dexterity, Sensory Modulation/Sensory Processing, Attention to Task, Postural Stability, Handwriting and Emotional Regulation. There is a wide variety of needs and common diagnoses including: Sensory Processing Disorders, Feeding Disorders, Fine and Gross Motor delays, Autism, Developmental Delays, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Genetic Conditions, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.
THERAPY SESSION
Occupational therapy is designed to address the functional skills of the whole child and assist each child to his/her own potential. Therapy addresses areas that may need to be enhanced while also focusing on the child’s strengths and interests. Each family is unique, and this is always considered while tailoring each individual program. Daily documentation and tracking progress is completed with each visit, as well as possible home exercise programs to enhance carryover in the child’s everyday life. Frequency of services is based on each individual child’s needs.
CONSULTATION
Consultation services are different than ongoing therapy and are provided on an as-needed basis. These services are focused on those who do not require frequent therapy sessions and meetings are designed to provide education, guidance, and address specific concerns/questions. Many consumers are for those looking to set up specific home programs for their child or looking for suggestions for classroom strategies. They are provided at most once every 6-8 weeks.
